UAE cricketer Asif Khan banned for 15-months for doping

Pakistan-born UAE batsman Asif Khan has been banned for 15 months after failing a dope test that tested positive for a banned steroid. The test, conducted on September 8, 2025, was released. Asif’s sample contained a metabolite of mesterolone, a banned anabolic steroid used to increase testosterone levels.

The 36-year-old cricketer was found guilty of violating Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code. The ICC said in a statement that Asif admitted to the breach and accepted the sanction through a Case Resolution Agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the ICC.

The ban is effective until December 7 this year

The ban imposed on Asif is effective from September 8, 2025, and will last until December 7 of this year. The ICC stated that Asif will be able to train with a team from October 8. He will also be able to use the facilities of any club or ICC member organization. However, his return to competitive cricket will only be possible from December 8.

Asif’s provisional suspension commenced on December 29, 2025. His individual records or awards from September 8, 2025, until the commencement of the provisional suspension, have been revoked. Asif has played 38 ODIs and 56 T20 Internationals for the UAE since his debut in 2022. He moved to the UAE in 2017. Prior to this, Asif had played 32 first-class matches in Pakistan’s domestic cricket.
