IND vs SL: Rain brings an end to Day 3 in Colombo, struggling Sri Lanka trail by 238 runs

IND vs SL: Team India has the upper hand in the second Test match being played between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. At the end of the third day’s play of the second Test between these two (IND vs SL), the Sri Lankan team scored 265 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 83.4 overs in their first innings. In response to India’s mammoth total of 503, the hosts are still 238 runs behind and face the huge threat of a follow-on.

Sri Lanka need to score 39 more runs to avoid the follow-on

Sri Lanka got off to a poor start to the day, resuming at 8 for 2. Coming into the innings, Kamil Mishara was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna for 19, while captain Dhananjaya de Silva also departed cheaply for just 8. Kamindu Mendis contributed 32 runs but couldn’t convert his innings into a big score, and Niroshan Dickwella was dismissed without scoring.

After the initial setbacks, Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Sonal Dinusha took charge of the Sri Lankan innings. Sooriyabandara played a very aggressive innings of 80 runs in 133 balls with the help of 9 fours, which was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja. At the other end, Sonal Dinusha batted brilliantly, scoring 85 runs in 137 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes and remained at the crease till the end of the day’s play.

Prasidh Krishna took three wickets

Indian bowlers performed brilliantly and maintained pressure on Sri Lanka by bowling disciplinedly throughout the day. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna took 3 important wickets for 47 runs in 14 overs, while spinner Manav Suthar also took 3 wickets for 83 runs in 21 overs. Apart from this, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja got 1-1 success, while Saransh Jain could not take any wicket despite being economical.

At the end of the third day’s play, Lahiru Kumara was batting on 8 runs along with Sonal Dinusha (85). The Indian team will take the field on the fourth morning with the intention of taking the remaining two Sri Lankan wickets quickly to gain a significant lead and completely control the match.
