Shubman Gill first Indian captain to score 1,000 runs in the WTC
The second match of the Test series between India and Sri Lanka began on August 23. Shubman Gill has completed 1,000 runs in the 2025-27 edition of the World Test Championship, crossing this mark in just 10 Test matches. He is the first Indian captain to reach the 1,000-run milestone within a single WTC cycle. While Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, and Yashasvi Jaiswal had previously completed 1,000 runs as players, Gill is the first to achieve this feat while serving as the Indian captain. So far in the 2025-27 WTC edition, Gill has scored 1,024 runs across 17 innings at an average of 68.26, recording five centuries and two half-centuries.

Now, 21 former international captains including Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev have raised their voices for Imran Khan and written a letter to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
“Dear Prime Minister, six months ago, fourteen former international cricket captains wrote to you and the Pakistani government appealing for humane treatment and proper medical care for Imran Khan. We wrote then not as politicians, but as former colleagues and rivals who share a bond forged on the cricket field, one that transcends the borders and disputes that too often divide countries. We write again now, joined by seven further former captains, because of what has reportedly just occurred,” they wrote.
Brydon Carse seen in handcuffs outside a nightclub in England
A three-match Test series is currently underway between England and Pakistan. England dominated the first match, securing a victory by an innings. However, England fast bowler Brydon Carse has since found himself in trouble. He was handcuffed by the police outside a nightclub in Derby on Saturday night, and a video of the incident is going viral on social media.
According to The Telegraph, the police detained Carse briefly; however, he was released shortly after and returned to his hotel. Carse is seen interacting with the police in the video, which also features former England captain Ben Stokes. It is not yet clear why the police handcuffed Carse, but the board has informed Sky Sports that an investigation into the matter has been launched.
Nathan Lyon becomes fifth Australian bowler to take 600 wickets
The second match of the two-match Test series between Australia and Bangladesh was played from August 22nd to 23rd. Australia performed brilliantly, defeating Bangladesh in just two days, leveling the series 1-1. After losing the first Test, Australia made a remarkable comeback and won the second match by an innings and 51 runs. In this match, Australia’s legendary spinner Nathan Lyon achieved a major milestone.
Nathan Lyon reached his 600th international wicket in this match. He took three wickets in the second innings, conceding 25 runs in 11.3 overs and bowling four maidens. Lyon now has 601 wickets, making him the fifth-highest wicket-taker for Australia in international cricket.
