IND vs SL: India put up a commanding performance on the opening day of the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka (IND vs SL) at the Galle International Stadium. By the close of the rain-affected first day, Team India scored 288 runs for the loss of two wickets in 73 overs. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Indian team got off to a steady start thanks to the opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul; the duo accumulated 47 runs in 11 overs.
Jaiswal (32) was run out, after which KL Rahul, partnering with Devdutt Padikkal, put together a 150-run stand for the second wicket, placing the team in a strong position. At the start of the third session, KL Rahul was unable to continue batting due to muscle cramps. He was seen grimacing in pain and limping due to leg discomfort, forcing him to retire hurt after scoring 77 runs off 162 balls, an innings that included one six and nine fours.

As he made his way back, Rahul struggled to climb the stairs to the dressing room. He was seen seeking assistance from the Indian team’s physio, Kamlesh Jain, to reach the dressing room for further treatment. Captain Shubman Gill came out to bat at number four and added 39 runs alongside Padikkal. Gill managed to score 16 runs, including two fours, in this innings; the team suffered its second blow when the captain fell with the score at 236.
India scored 239 for 2 after 63 overs when play was briefly halted due to rain. Upon resumption, Devdutt Padikkal and Rishabh Pant shared an unbroken partnership of 52 runs off 67 balls, steering Team India to a strong total. Padikkal is currently unbeaten on 131 off 178 balls. His innings includes one six and 12 fours, while Pant has scored 27 runs off 36 balls, hitting one six and three fours. For Sri Lanka, the only success came from Prabath Jayasuriya, who claimed one wicket for 77 runs in 24 overs.
