AUS vs BAN: The first Test match between Australia and Bangladesh is being played at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin. The first day of the Test was completely in Bangladesh’s favor. After bowling out Australia for 198 in the first innings, Bangladesh has scored 96 runs for the loss of just one wicket. Australia has a 102-run lead in the first innings, but Bangladesh has nine wickets remaining.
Bangladesh batters are playing steadily
Bangladesh did not have a good start in the first innings as Shadman Islam was dismissed for 20 runs after facing 30 balls. After this, Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Mominul Haque took charge and did not let the team suffer any further setback till the end of the day’s play. Both of them have made an unbroken partnership of 60 runs for the second wicket. Tanzid is playing at 32 runs after facing 67 balls, while Mominul has scored 35 runs in 49 balls with the help of 6 fours. Mitchell Starc has taken the only wicket from Australia’s side.
Australian batting fails in front of pace bowling
Earlier, Bangladesh’s bowlers performed brilliantly and bundled out Australia for 198 runs in the first innings. Travis Head and Jack Weatherald added 45 runs for the first wicket. Head was clean bowled by Hasan Mahmud for 22, while Weatherald could only make 23 runs. Marnus Labuschagne was caught by Ibadat Hussain after scoring one run. Cameron Green returned to the pavilion after scoring 13 runs. Meanwhile, Alex Carey was out for 19 and Beau Webster for 12 runs. However, Steve Smith held one end and played a half-century inning. Smith was out for 71 runs after facing 109 balls, caught by Liton Das off Hasan Mahmud.
Captain Pat Cummins managed only 9 runs, while Mitchell Starc (1 run) and Nathan Lyon (7 runs) also failed to contribute significantly with the bat. Josh Hazlewood remained unbeaten on 7 runs. In the bowling department, Hasan Mahmud was excellent for Bangladesh, taking 6 wickets for 55 runs, while Taskin Ahmed and Ibadat Hossain took two wickets each.
