On the first day of the three-day warm-up match against India, Sri Lanka Cricket XI took a commendable position by scoring 363 runs for 8 wickets in 90 overs. However, the Indian spinners made a brilliant comeback in the last session. Ravindra Jadeja and Manav Suthar broke the run rate by taking 2 wickets each, while Suthar got the big breakthrough by LBWing set batsman Sonal Dinusha (52). By the end of the day’s play, Dilum Sudeera and Keshara Nuwantha were present at the crease, due to which the Sri Lankan team will come out on the second day with the hope of a big score.
Century partnership for the first wicket
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka XI came to bat first and the pair of Nishan Madushka and Ravindu Rasantha gave an explosive start. Both added 110 runs for the first wicket in 20.4 overs. Nishan scored 66 runs in 65 balls with the help of 11 fours and one six. He was run out and returned to the pavilion. Only one wicket of India fell in the first session. Ravindu also played a half-century inning. Ravindra Jadeja gave India the second success by dismissing Pasindu Sooriyabandara (35). Ravindu was out as the third wicket after scoring 71 runs.
Pawan Ratnayake made 39, while Ahan Wickramasinghe chipped in with 31 runs. But both departed at 250. Captain Sonal Dinusha then stayed at the crease, adding 34 runs with wicketkeeper Anjala Bandara and 64 runs with Ramesh Mendis. Ravindra Jadeja, India’s new ball bowler, broke the partnership by dismissing Mendis. He made 32 runs off 49 balls.
Captain Sonal also hit a fifty
Manav Suthar then took the wicket of captain Sonal Dinusha. He scored 52 runs, hitting five fours and a six in his 71-ball innings. At stumps, Keshara Nuwantha was on 9, while Dilum Sudeera is unbeaten scoring 1 run. For India, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Manav Suthar took two wickets each, while Gurnur Brar took one.
