WI vs PAK: Pakistan defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test in Port of Spain . They won the match (WI vs PAK) on the fourth day, having been set a target of 75 runs. Captain Babar Azam ended the match with two consecutive sixes, leveling the two-match series at 1-1. Pakistan achieved victory after eight consecutive away defeats. It also won a Test match on foreign soil after three years.
Pakistan bundled out the hosts for a paltry 117 in the second innings, thanks to four wickets each from Ali Usman and Sajid Khan. Brandon King was unable to bat due to injury. The West Indies were 103 for six on the third day of play. The last four batsmen also failed to deliver. Only 14 runs were added on the fourth day, leaving Pakistan with a target of 75 runs to win.
Pakistan’s first away Test win since 2023
They lost both their openers in achieving this feat. Imam-ul-Haq managed only nine runs, while Azan Awais made 18. Abdullah Shafique and Babar then combined to score 35 runs to secure victory. Babar and Shafique remained unbeaten on 24 each. Babar was also the captain when Pakistan last won a Test match abroad. That victory came in July 2023 against Sri Lanka.
West Indies have not won a Test series against Pakistan since 2000
The West Indies once again failed to win a Test series against Pakistan (WI vs PAK). Their last victory came in 2000. Nine series have been played since then, with Pakistan winning four and five drawn. The West Indies won the first Test by 90 runs. It was then believed that under Roston Chase’s captaincy, the West Indies would be successful in winning the series.
Brief scores: Pakistan 387 & 77/2 (Abdullah Shafique 24*, Babar Azam 24; Jayden Seales 1-9, Shamar Joseph 1-17) beat West Indies 344 & 117 (Kavem Hodge 34, Roston Chase 17; Sajid Khan 4-32, Ali Usman 4-39) by eight wickets.
