Now, news has emerged that the dates for the qualifiers for the ODI World Cup 2027 have been revealed, with the ICC confirming that the matches will be played between February and March. The ICC has already announced the format, which is quite interesting. However, the location of the qualifiers has not yet been decided.
Preparations are in full swing for next year’s ODI World Cup 2027. It has been learned that the qualifiers will be played from February 22nd to March 23rd, a period of approximately one month. After this, it will be known which teams will participate in the World Cup. Although the dates of the World Cup have not been announced yet, it is believed that the tournament will be played from October 4th to November 11th. This year’s World Cup will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Matches will be held in a total of 12 stadiums.
What will be the format of qualification?
As for the qualification format, a total of 10 teams will participate. The winning teams will directly qualify for the 14-nation ODI World Cup. The second, third, and fourth-place teams will first compete in a Super Series. The top team will be part of the 12-team group and advance to the World Cup. However, the Super Series will also be a part of the World Cup.
Now the question is who will play in the 10-team qualifier. The ICC has decided that the teams ranked in the top eight in the ICC ODI rankings as of September 30, 2026, will directly qualify. The bottom two teams will have to play in the qualifier. South Africa and Zimbabwe, as hosts, have already secured their places. This means the bottom two teams in the rankings, the top four teams in the Cricket World Cup League 2 points table, and the four teams from the World Cup Qualifier playoffs, totaling 10.
Meanwhile, you should also know which and how many teams will be in the Qualifier Playoffs. Eight teams will be competing here. The bottom four teams in the Cricket World Cup League 2, i.e., teams ranked from number 5 to 8 on the points table, and four teams from the Challengers League, will be participating. Four of these eight teams will advance to the World Cup Qualifiers.
