Former explosive Indian opener Virender Sehwag was once the frontrunner in the race to become Team India’s coach. However, he declined the opportunity at the last minute. Sehwag himself revealed this, stating that Virat Kohli and the BCCI Secretary had approached him for the role in 2017. Despite this, Sehwag did not agree to take it up. Now, nearly nine years later, Sehwag has explained why he turned down the chance to become the coach after coming so close to the role.
Sehwag said, “If Virat Kohli and the then BCCI Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary hadn’t approached me, I wouldn’t have even applied. They held a meeting with me where they explained that things weren’t going well between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble; that is why they wanted me to apply and become the coach.”

Michael Smith appointed Pakistan batting coach
