‘Look at the ability, not the age’, Kapil Dev on Vaibhav

The Indian cricket team is currently touring England, where the second T20 match of the five-match series will be played on Saturday at Old Trafford in Manchester. Ahead of this match, there is growing demand for the inclusion of 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the playing eleven. Vaibhav now has the support of India’s legendary captain Kapil Dev.

Kapil said, “If you just talk about talent, then yes, Vaibhav is as good as Sachin and Virat Kohli. He clearly has that talent, but at the moment it’s only on display in T20 cricket; he still needs to prove himself in other formats.”

He added, “He’s phenomenal in the T20 format. You won’t find even one percent of players who have made such an impact on the game at such a young age. When Sachin debuted at such a young age, we still wondered if it was too early, but looking at history, sometimes the fear is greater when it’s too late. If the team management feels he’s ready, don’t count his age, just his ability.”
