MLC 2026: Faf du Plessis scripts T20 history with unbeaten 113 to take Texas Super Kings home

It was a memorable opening day in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026, as Texas Super Kings TSK) romped home to a comfortable victory against Seattle Orcas in Dallas on June 19 (Friday). TSK chased down 221, thanks to an unbeaten 113 off 52 deliveries by their skipper, Faf du Plessis. In doing so, du Plessis, aged 41 years and 341 days, became the oldest T20 centurion. He smashed nine fours and seven sixes during his innings.

Moreover, he now has eight T20 hundreds, the most by a South African batter after Quinton de Kock (9) and Rilee Rossouw (9). He also became the 13th player to go past 12,000 runs in the format.

Du Plessis built an attacking 37-ball 95-run stand for the second wicket with Rossouw after losing his opening partner, Saiteja Mukkamalla, in the second ball of the chase.

After the partnership with Rossouw, he put on 30 (25) with Milind Kumar, 39 (21) with Shubham Ranjane and finally 56 off 26 with countryman Wiaan Mulder to take his side home by six wickets with nine balls to spare.

The Seifert show

Earlier, the Orcas took the attack to the Super Kings thanks to a magnificent century by Tim Seifert (104). Along with Shayan Jahangir (78), he put on 195 for the first wicket in 17.2 overs, which set the tone after being asked to bat first.

The Super Kings are in action next against the San Francisco Unicorns on June 21 (Sunday), while the Orcas will look to get off the mark in the tournament against Washington Freedom on June 20 (Saturday).
