Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) demanded on Saturday for authorities to thoroughly investigate and take action after cricketer Nayeem Hasan said that he was assaulted by police. The incident reportedly occurred in Chittagong, where Hasan was attacked on Friday night. The BCB expressed the behaviour of the police officers as unacceptable and inappropriate and also asked for a detailed and impartial investigation into the matter.
In a statement, BCB said, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board expresses its deep concern regarding the reported incident involving harassment and abuse of Bangladesh national team cricketer Nayeem Hasan by some law-enforcing agency members in Chattogram on Friday evening.”

It also added, “The board strongly condemns the unacceptable and inappropriate conduct displayed towards the player and views the matter with the utmost seriousness. Such treatment of a national athlete is deeply regrettable and warrants immediate attention. The BCB expects a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident and urges the relevant authorities to take appropriate action against those found responsible.”
The police beat Nayeem severely with a plastic pipe and a stick
Nayeem Hasan, 26, said he was returning home from Dhaka airport after playing a division cricket match. He was riding in an auto-rickshaw when police officers stopped the auto-rickshaw near the Lalkhan Bazaar area of Chittagong.
He said, “The police beat me indiscriminately with a plastic pipe and a stick. When I identified myself, the station in-charge asked me to speak with my eyes down. If he had been a police officer, he would have taken me in a police jeep instead of a CNG auto-rickshaw. I demand a fair investigation and justice in this entire matter.” Nayeem returned home on Saturday morning. Following these allegations, Bangladesh veteran cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim has also come forward in support of the fellow cricketer.
