The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the schedule for the IPL 2026 playoff matches. This time the title match of the tournament will be played on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Earlier, the final match was discussed to be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, but now Ahmedabad has the hosting rights. However, due to special logistical reasons, this important phase of the tournament will be played in three different cities. After the 70-match league stage, the playoff matches will begin on May 26.
Following the league matches, Qualifier 1 will be played in Dharamsala, while the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 will be held in New Chandigarh. This decision has generated considerable discussion among cricket fans.
What did the IPL say in its statement?
“Due to certain operational and logistical reasons, the Tata IPL 2026 playoff matches will be held across three different venues this season,” the IPL’s official statement said. It further added, “Bengaluru was initially selected to host the final, but due to certain requirements of the local cricket association and administration, which were outside the BCCI’s established guidelines and protocols, the venue was changed and the matches were shifted to another venue.”
