IPL 2026 Bulletin: Major Talking Points | April 24, 2026

RCB defeat GT by 5 wickets

On Friday, Virat Kohli’s 81 runs and Devdutt Padikkal’s innings of 55 helped RCB defeat Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets, registering their 5th win of the IPL 2026 season. This marked RCB’s fifth victory in the seven matches played so far this season, a result that further solidified their position in the points table. For Gujarat, this was their fourth defeat in seven matches, rendering Sai Sudharsan’s century-knock in vain.

In the 34th match of IPL 2026, Royal Challengers Bangalore faced the challenge of Gujarat Titans in a contest held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. In this match, RCB won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, Gujarat posted a total of 205 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. RCB required 206 runs to win the match, and they successfully chased down the target, scoring 206 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 18.5 overs to secure the victory.

Sai Sudharsan breaks Chris Gayle’s IPL record

On Friday, Sai Sudharsan pulled off something special. He smashed his way to a century in just 57 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and that wasn’t all — he broke a huge record by becoming the fastest player to reach 2,000 IPL runs in terms of innings, overtaking Chris Gayle. Gayle took 48 innings to hit that mark, but Sudharsan got there in 47.

In terms of balls faced, Sudharsan now ranks sixth among Indian batters to reach 2,000 IPL runs. The only guys ahead of him are Abhishek Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Yusuf Pathan. It wasn’t a solo act either. Sudharsan and Shubman Gill kicked off Gujarat’s innings in style, throwing together a 128-run stand for the first wicket and giving their team a strong start at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

This partnership marked their eighth 100-plus stand in the IPL, putting them third for most century partnerships for any wicket. Only Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers (10), and Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle (9), have more.

Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins confirms his comeback date

In IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has delivered a commanding performance under the captaincy of Ishan Kishan. Under his captaincy, SRH has won 4 out of the 7 matches played so far. Ishan, who began the season with a defeat against RCB, has now achieved a hat-trick of victories. However, Ishan may be seen playing solely as a specialist player in the upcoming match against Rajasthan, as the team’s regular captain, Pat Cummins, is making his return for the clash against RR. With his return, it is all but certain that Ishan will relinquish the captaincy. Sunrisers Hyderabad is scheduled to face the Rajasthan Royals on April 25.

Due to an injury, Pat Cummins has been unable to participate in the tournament so far this season. However, having regained his fitness, he is now ready to make his comeback. Cummins—SRH’s regular captain—recently shared a few photographs on social media in which he is seen running in and bowling with full intensity. In the caption accompanying the post, Cummins wrote, “Been a long time coming, stinging to get back into it tomorrow.”
