WATCH: Mohammed Shami continues rich form to strike off his first ball on LSG debut

17 wickets from his last four competitive matches, 11 wickets in his last three T20s, and now, Mohammed Shami strikes off his very first delivery on his Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) debut. He got the big scalp of KL Rahul, who looked to go over covers, but mistimed it straight to the man at third-man, where Mohsin Khan took a simple catch. This was a much-needed strike for LSG as Delhi Capitals (DC) are chasing a modest 142 to get off the mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

For someone who is tipped to have his best days behind him, the pacer continues to turn up for his team more often than not. He may not have played for India in over a year, but he refuses to die down.

LSG traded Shami from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 10 crore ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, hoping that his experience will play a key role in LSG faring much better than they did last season, where they finished seventh on the points table.

The pacer recently confirmed that he has no intentions of retiring, as he believes he has a lot left in the tank. He showed that at the domestic level, and now he hopes to carry that momentum into the IPL as well.

Shami will have to play a key role for Lucknow this season, as their fast bowling department lacks experience. He has 134 wickets in 120 IPL matches so far at an economy rate of 8.62 and a strike rate of 19.50.
