England all-rounder Jamie Overton scored a valuable 43 off 36, which dragged Chennai Super Kings (CSK)to 127 in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season opener against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati on March 30 (Monday). In doing so, he broke the record of former skipper MS Dhoni.
Overton’s 43 is the highest score by a CSK batter at No. 8 or below.

The 31-year-old, who was bought by CSK for INR 1.5 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, has played four games for CSK so far, scoring 58 runs in three innings, but is yet to pick up a wicket.
Overton also put on 33 for the last wicket with Anshul Kamboj, which is the third-highest partnership for the 10th wicket in IPL history, after 55* between Shikhar Dhawan and Mohit Rathee against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2023 and 33 between Pat Cummins and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2024.
Earlier, RR captain won the toss and put CSK in to bat. Jofra Archer (2/19), Nandre Burger (2/26) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/18) picked up two wickets apiece, while Brijesh Sharma, Sandeep Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi picked up one each.
