Mumbai Indians (MI) handed Allah Ghazanfar his much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) deut on March 29 (Sunday) in their season opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium. He was bought for INR 4.80 crore in IPL 2025, but an injury prevented him from making his bow for the five-time IPL winners.
However, when he got a chance, it was a rather forgetful one. He finished with 0/51 in his four overs, thereby becoming one of the worst IPL debuts for a spinner.
Most runs conceded by a spinner on IPL debut
56 Prayas Ray Barman (RCB) vs SRH, 2019
51 Allah Ghazanfar (MI) vs KKR, 2026
Ghazanfar had a chance to pick up his maiden IPL wicket, but Rohit Sharma shelled a catch of Angkrish Raghuvanshi long-on to deny the mystery spinner.
Earlier, MI had won the toss and elected to bowl. Rohit, who played all the matches last season as an impact player, finds himself in the XI. However, Suryakumar Yadav, who led India to World Cup glory recently, finds himself on the impact players’ list.
