Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finished rock bottom of the Indian Premier League (IPL) last season and would want to get back to their best in 2026. They have made some smart purchases in the auction and have also traded in Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Given his form with the bat and Player of the Series performance at the recent T20 World Cup, all eyes will surely be on Samson, who will be expected to go all guns blazing. Pressure will also be on skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had a forgettable 2025 season, and moreover, it came to an abrupt end due to an injury.
However, the CSK skipper has confirmed that he will open the batting with Samson in 2026. Last year, it was Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra who opened for the five-time champions. Ayush Mhatre also donned the role when needed. However, this year, we will see Gaikwad and Samson at the top, with Mhatre at three. There could also be a case for hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel in the top four as well.
CSK also have Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, and, of course, MS Dhoni to make up a powerful-looking middle order.
CSK begin their IPL 2026 campaign against RR on March 30 in Guwahati.
