IPL 2026: 3 players who can fill Andre Russell’s void at KKR

Arguably one of the greatest players in Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) history, Andre Russell, announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year. With 2,593 runs and 122 wickets to his name, Russell will go down as one of the best all-rounders in the IPL. However, with him no longer in the team, the franchise will need to look elsewhere to fill his void.

We take a look at three such players who could do so.

Cameron Green

KKR shelled out INR 25.20 crore for Australia all-rounder Cameron Green at the recent auction. Green has shown plenty of potential in his two seasons in the IPL, having hit 707 runs at a strike rate of 153.69 and also has 16 wickets at an economy rate of 9.07. While he has made a good start, whether he can continue to perform well on a consistent basis is to be seen. However, the 26-year-old has all the ingredients to make him a massive success in the IPL.

Rovman Powell

While there is little doubt over Rovman Powell’s brutal hitting with the bat, he is not as effective with the ball. More often than not, Powell is used as the sixth or seventh bowler, indicating that the teams do not value his bowling skills as much as his batting. in fact, he has bowled just three overs with the ball, across his 29 IPL matches so far. However, he has scored over 350 runs at a strike rate of 147. If KKR are to make the best of him, it could behove them to polish Powell’s bowling skills, given that they are thin on fast-bowling options this season due to injuries.

Ramandeep Singh

With a T20 strike rate of almost 172, 28-year-old Ramandeep Singh is perhaps reaching the peak of his career. He has shown he can use the long handle at the death, but at KKR, he has not been trusted with the ball as much as he has during his short stint with the Mumbai Indians (MI). With the impact player rule, the role of an all-rounder is depleting and that is the case with Ramandeep, who has bowled just four balls for KKR since joining in 2024. However, with the bat, he is a dangerous weapon down the order, having struck at 158.39 in the IPL.
