IND vs NZ: Team India defeated New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, securing their record third title in the tournament’s history. On Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India and New Zealand faced off in the T20 World Cup 2026 final, and, honestly, it was all India from the start. The Indian batting lineup just took over from the word go.
Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan all smashed half-centuries and made the New Zealand bowlers look lost from the onset. India piled up a massive total. When it was New Zealand’s turn to chase, they crumbled. India won by a huge margin and grabbed their third T20 World Cup trophy.

Up top, India’s batsmen looked in complete control. Sanju Samson hammered 89 runs off just 46 balls as he barely gave the bowlers a chance. Abhishek Sharma chipped in with 52 from 21, smashing 6 fours and 3 sixes.
The two of them put together a 98-run opening stand, and that opening partnership really set the tone for the rest of the innings. Ishan Kishan came in at three and didn’t let the momentum slip. He made the most of the strong start and hit 54 from 25 balls.
Not everyone had a great day, though as Suryakumar Yadav, the captain, got out first ball. But Shivam Dube showed up at the end with a quick 26 off 8 balls and India finished on a towering 255 for 5 in their 20 overs.

When New Zealand started their chase, things went south fast. Finn Allen fell with just 31 on the board, and Rachin Ravindra followed right after for just a single. Tim Seifert, the opener, tried to fight back with a gutsy 52 off 26 balls and he hit 2 fours and sent 5 balls over the rope.
But he barely got any support from the other end. Glenn Phillips managed only 5, and Mark Chapman chipped in just 3. New Zealand just couldn’t keep up and lost the final by 96 runs. Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets for India while Axar Patel chipped in with 3 scalps.
Brief Score:
India: 255/5 in 20 overs (Sanju Samson 89, Ishan Kishan 54, Abhishek Sharma 52; James Neesham 3/46)
New Zealand: 159/10 in 19 overs (Tim Seifert 52; Jasprit Bumrah 4/15, Axar Patel 3/27)
