Glenn Maxwell hopes to be “fit and firing” to play T20I in future
Glenn Maxwell is hopeful of playing more T20I cricket for Australia and has not decided on the finishing date yet. By the time Australia host the T20 World Cup 2028 with the LA Olympics to take place a few months earlier, Maxwell will be 40. He is a regular in the T20 league across the world like BBL, PSL, MLC as well as the new Europe-based T20 league. But Australia’s failure in the T20 World Cup and Maxwell’s recent form has been concerning.
Although Maxwell may lost his CA contract, he is keen to continue playing and is not ready to take a call on his future based on temporary form. “I think not making a decision around my future was probably based more on what’s to come over the next 12 months. There’s not a whole lot of T20 cricket planned, so there’s probably no need to make any sort of formal announcements and just see how my body’s going and see how I’m travelling and if there’s opportunities to play in the future, hopefully I’m fit and firing,” Maxwell told reporters on Wednesday in Melbourne.
CWC league 2 matches postponed
Six matches scheduled as part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2, which were set to be played in Kirtipur, Nepal, have been postponed due to the ongoing military conflict in West Asia. The matches were initially planned to take place from 10 March to 20 March at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. The competing teams included Oman, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Nepal. The Cricket Association of Nepal announced on X that new dates for these fixtures will be communicated after further consultations.
The next set of matches in League 2 is scheduled to be played in Windhoek, Namibia. Scotland, Oman, and Namibia will compete from 2 April onwards as per the current itinerary. England Lions recently cancelled their games against Pakistan Shaheens in the UAE, ending their tour prematurely earlier this week.
